RAISING ARIZONA (1987) Movie Reaction w/Nicolette FIRST TIME WATCHING

Raising Arizona movie reaction. Check out Nicolette's first time watching Raising Arizona reaction.
Nicolette's FIRST Coen Brothers film??? It's insane, but he has never seen any of Joel and Ethan's films yet (cue the "She should've watched Blood Simple first!", subs)
Released in 1987, the Coen Brothers 2nd film launched them into superstardom and secured Nicolas Cage's ascent into one of the biggest stars in the world - Starring an incredible ensemble cast including Holly Hunter, John Goodman, Francis McDormand, William Forsythe, M Emmet Walsh, and Nicolas Cage as H.I. McDunnough.

Okay, so I'm an old fart who saw "Blood Simple" - the Coen's first film - in theaters when it first came out and have been with them ever since. The Coen's style was seen right out of the gate with that film, which is great, and it was also Frances McDormand's first film and where she met Joel, who she's now been married to for decades, and she's been in a lot of their films including one you absolutely have to watch, "Fargo". "Raising Arizona" was the first time that John Goodman appeared in one of their films but he's been in so many since then. The other films (besides the 2 mentioned above) I would say are 'must-see's' are "No Country for Old Men" (my favorite film of all-time); "The Big Lebowski"; "Miller's Crossing", and "Barton Fink". The Coen's started working with Sam Raimi before directing their first film, and Joel was an assistant editor on Raimi's debut feature, "The Evil Dead". That fast tracking shot in this film that runs up to the Arizona house and up the ladder into the bedroom and up to Mrs. Arizona screaming was using the "shakycam" system that Raimi used in "The Evil Dead" which basically involves strapping a camera to a 2x4 and having a guy on each end run with it.

Weird comedies - often with a crime, but for the "right" off kilter reasons- are Cohen Brothers thing. Can't go wrong with any of them Yes, they are all comedies, and yes all have at least 1 crime. Oh someday when ready for future sci-fi western crime "Firefly/Serenity" awaits. (Firefly is about small timespace smugglers. Mostly.)

I cannot forget what Alfred Hitchcock did to the main actress of this movie. He was worse than a stalker. He was permanently staring at her, when they were on set, and then he told her, that he will not allow her to play in any movie ever again, if she doesn`t marry him. She refused to marry him and so she was never seen again in any movie. This appearence of her in "The Birds" remained her only appearence in a movie, because she didn`t want to marry a perverted creep. I feel guilty when I still watch Hitchcock movies.

Two Coen Brothers movies, Raising Arizona and O Brother Where Art Thou? have pomade in them, and they both also have John Goodman. Randall "Tex" Cobb was a boxer as well as an actor. His best-known fight was against Larry Holmes for the world heavyweight championship. Cobb had a great chin, which he needed, because Holmes knocked him all over the ring for 15 rounds. Howard Cosell, who broadcast the fight, was so disgusted that he swore he'd never cover another boxing match. Cobb called this his "gift to the sport of boxing," and said he'd play football for a week if Cosell would stop covering that sport, too. Cobb also said he didn't think Holmes would want to fight him again because "the champion's fists couldn't handle a rematch." When Johnny Carson mentioned during an interview that Holmes had a much longer reach, Cobb replied, "Looked that way to you, too?" More Coen Brothers movies you'd probably enjoy: No Country for Old Men O Brother, Where Art Thou? The Big Lebowski True Grit The Conversation (1974) is a movie I'd love for you to react to. Francis Ford Coppola directed it between the first two Godfather films. Everyone I know who's seen it has loved it, but for some reason there are hardly any reactions to it.
